Avadhuta Gita (preface)

Reading Avadhuta Gita, i found a loads of similarities between Astavakra Gita and Avadhuta Gita. Disciple hv asked n master explained...that too in form of songs. We cannot speak about Him who is beyond our thoughts and imaginations. So, wherever masters hav spoken about God, they had to take the support of a mystic tune . Even a lyricist first has to be one with music. Music comes first in his mind , and then he is able to wrap the words on it. So does most of the poets.

Without music in one's heart  - nothing could even been created. And that music too is delivered into the ears, that only is able to create masterpiece. Astavakra was a song. Avadhuta too is a song.
Song of God , By - God Himself. One who was singing, was in samadhi. Who is listening too is in samadhi. Then only it could be caught. In complete bliss of Brahman, of Oneself.

Avadhuta is defined as 'Song of the Purified'.It is believed that lord ** Dattatreya, the son of Atri and Anasuya, was an incarnation of Brahma Vishnu and Shiva**

Here is A talk by Swami Vivekananda (RECORDED BY MISS S. E. WALDO, A DISCIPLE) on SUNDAY, July 28, 1895 .

"All knowledge depends upon calmness of mind."

"He who has filled the universe, He who is Self in self, how shall I salute Him!"

To know the Atman as my nature is both knowledge and realisation. "I am He, there is not the least doubt of it."
"No thought, no word, no deed, creates a bondage for me. I am beyond the senses, I am knowledge and bliss."

There is neither existence nor non-existence, all is Atman. Shake off all ideas of relativity; shake off all superstitions; let caste and birth and Devas and all else vanish.

Why talk of being and becoming? Give up talking of dualism and Advaitism!

When were you two, that you talk of two or one? The universe is this Holy One and He alone.

Talk not of Yoga to make you pure; you are pure by your very nature.

None can teach you.Men like him who wrote this song are what keep religion alive.
They have actually realised; they care for nothing, feel nothing done to the body, care not for heat and cold or danger or anything.

They sit still and enjoy the bliss of Atman, while red-hot coals burn their body, and they feel them not.

"When the threefold bondage of knower, knowledge, and known ceases, there is the Atman."

"Where the delusion of bondage and freedom ceases, there the Atman is."

"What if you have controlled the mind, what if you have not? What if you have money, what if you have not? You are the Atman ever pure. Say, 'I am the Atman. No bondage ever came near me. I am the changeless sky; clouds of belief may pass over me, but they do not touch me.'"

"Burn virtue, burn vice. Freedom is baby talk. I am that immortal Knowledge. I am that purity."

"No one was ever bound, none was ever free. There is none but me. I am the Infinite, the Ever-free. Talk not to me! What can change me, the essence of knowledge! Who can teach, who can be taught?"

Throw argument, throw philosophy into the ditch."

Only a slave sees slaves, the deluded delusion, the impure impurity."

Place, time causation are all delusions. It is your disease that you think you are bound and will be free. You are the Unchangeable.

Talk not. Sit down and let all things melt away, they are but dreams. There is no differentiation, no distinction, it is all superstition; therefore be silent and know what you are." I am the essence of bliss. "

Follow no ideal, you are all there is. Fear naught, you are the essence of existence. Be at peace. Do not disturb yourself. You never were in bondage, you never were virtuous or sinful. Get rid of all these delusions and be at peace. Whom to worship? Who worships? All is the Atman. To speak, to think is superstition. Repeat over and over, "I am Atman", "I am Atman". Let everything else go.....

Today, before i start, i shall show How AG (AvadhutaGita) has come in a conversation , when i started translating Astavakra. Without the will - nothing is possible. Again he prepares us fr the right time fr thr right thing. As i hav taken His msg seriously n worked on it.... i hope yu all too shall find sometime to read this series. It is said they, who mindfully listen or read these verses realize who they are.

Gratitude to my father who has cleared few doubts on some verses.

So, now we are ready to sing another song. Avadhuta Gita. Harder than AG, yet when it calls, one effortlessly get absorbed into it.

Verses - frm tomorrow.....

Ishavasya Upanishad (4)

अनेजदेकं मनसो जवीयो नैनद्देवा आप्नुवन्पूर्वमर्षत् ।तद्धावतोऽन्यानत्येति तिष्ठत्तस्मिन्नपो मातरिश्वा दधाति ॥४॥

[That non—dual Atman, though never stirring, is swifter than the mind. The senses cannot reach It, for It moves ever in front. Though standing still, It overtakes others who are running. Because of Atman, Vayu, the World Soul apportions the activities of all.]

(The one self never moves, yet is too swift for the mind which moves more than the speed of air, even more speedy than the light.
The senses cannot reach it,yet lt is ever beyond their grasp.remaining still, it outstrips all activity, yet in it rests the breath of all that moves.it moves, yet moves not. We are the vessel - the pot - and the pot moves in the illusion that the conciousness is moving with it . How the space which is in and out of the pot could be moved !!

Aadi Sankaracarya says Brahman is 'Satyam-Gnanam-Anantham'
"Satyam Gyanamanantam Brahma"

(1) Satyam : that which does not change the nature that is ascertained to be its own is 'satya' ..So, the word, ‘satyam’ distinguishes Brahman from mutable things.
(2) The word, ‘jnana’ means consciousness.it itself negates the idea of the agent of knowing. If It is the agent of knowing, It becomes changeful and so cannot be 'satya'.
(3) That indeed is 'Anantha' (infinite) which is not limited by anything. ’The Infinite is that where one does not know anything else’.
If It has such distinctive attributes as becoming the agent of knowing, It cannot logically be pure existence.

Everything is 'Concequent occurrence' in a cosmical setup. This system, which is physio-socio-cosmological, can be understood only on the acceptance of a living principle pervading all things, a life that is indwelling the parts, which look like physical entities. We human do hav the highest amount or unit of prana among all the organism and do hav the possibility to increase the life energy upto its double. When we feel joy, even his joy of the feeling that one is alive does not come from any part of the physiological system. This is an instance of the presence of an unknown content operating beneath and behind visible particulars, which are otherwise physical in their nature. Joy is , in one-conciousness , we call it Brahman ♡ )

Bramh ko humlog janneki seema me bandh nahi sakte. Hamari ye sharir, ye mann, bhavnayen, buddhi brahm ko bayan nahi kar sakta. Drig-drishya viveke, panchkosha viveka, har shastra us anantha satya ke bareme hai jo gnan ki shrot hai per gyan nahi. Isilie shankaracharya brahma ke bareme tin sabdh diye jo judkar suddh-bodhse unka abhasmatra paya ja sakta hai. ''Satya-gyana evam ananta" jo satya hai wohi gnan hain or wohi anant.

Yadi gyani hi 'woh' hote - to gyan ki prakriya ki paridhi me aate per woh us daireme nahi aate. Or ananta bhi wohi jinme dusra koi dusra kuch nahi janta. Finite ki koibhi mandand se infinity ka parimaap kaise ho sakta hai !! Or Jo srist hi nahi hue - anadi hai - unko nast bhi nahi kia ja sakta. To unka seemakal bhi nahi. Unhe kaise kaal *samay* ke daireme rakhenge ?

Jaise kalash ko idhar udhar kar sakte hain, per usme or uske bahrme jo khaali jagah hai woh to chalkebhi nahi chalta. To ye illusion matra hai ke main kalsa ko uske andar ki space samet chalfir raha hai. Woisehi ye bhram hi hai ke hamare sharir chetne ko khudme lekr chetnasamet chal rahe hain. Sirf sharir chalti hai - chetna sthir hai.

Ye anand ki aadhar hamare manastattvik adhar nahi. Hum jeevet hai ye chotisi anand ka ehsaas bhi chetna me hai. Manastattvik gyan anand nahi. Anand kuch aaisa hai jo hum samaj nahi sakte. Anand us ek-chetna, suddh vivek me se aati hai. Hamare buddhi se paare ki chetna se. Us chaitanya se khudko jodtehi hum bhi us chaitanya ki poornima me poornata me samil ho jaate hain.

Samaj nahi sakte bata nahi sakte buddhi se pakr nahi sakte firbhi Brahman humse alag kahan !!

Part 4
--------
Chapter 3
-------------
[ Dialogue of Raikva and Janasruti ]

"Verily, Vayu (the air) is the swallower (samvarga). For when fire goes out it is indeed swallowed by the air. When the sun sets it is swallowed by the air. When the moon sets it is swallowed by the air. "

"When water dries up it is swallowed by the air. For indeed the air absorbs them all. So much with reference to the gods.

"Now with reference to the body: Verily, the prana is the swallower. When a man sleeps, speech goes into the prana, sight goes into the prana, hearing goes into the prana and the mind goes into the prana. For indeed the prana absorbs them all.

"These are the two swallowers: the air among the gods, the prana among the senses.

"Once Saunaka of the line of Kapi and Abhipratarin, the son of Kakshasena, were being waited upon at their meal, when a brahmacharin begged food of them. They did not give him anything.

He said: "One God, Prajapati, swallowed the four great ones. He is the Guardian of the world. O descendent of Kapi, O Abhipratarin, mortals do not see Him though he abides in manifold forms. Verily, this food has not been given to Him to whom it belongs.

Sanaka of the line of Kapi, pondering on those words, went to the brahmacharin and said: "He is the self of the gods, the creator of all beings, with unbroken teeth, the eater, the truly wise one. They speak of His magnificence as great, because without being eaten, He eats even what is not common food. O brahmacharin, we meditate upon this Brahman."Then he said to the attendants: "Give him food.

"They gave food to him. Now these five (i.e. the eater vayu and fire, the sun, the moon and water, which are its food) and those five (i.e. the eater prana and the organs of speech, the eye, the ear and the mind, which are its food) make ten. These together constitute the krita (the highest throw in a game of dice). On account of this similarity of ten, these ten are the food in the ten quarters and further, they are Virat, the eater of food, by which all this becomes seen. All this he sees and the eater of food he becomes, who knows this, yes , who knows this.....

Essence of the Yoga Vasistha

During Deepotsava let us take a break frm the regular upanishada posts and read something interesting.

here is the essence of the foremost text of #Vedanta  philosophy here explained by yogi Shivanandaji. Beautiful knowlenge fr the advanced seekers.

The glory of Yoga Vashistha / Gnana Vashistha :
*****************************
The earliest work in Sanskrit on 'Vedanta' of the highest order is the 'Yoga Vasishtha'.Vasishtha, the great sage, taught the principles of Vedanta to Sri Ram- his pupil. He introduced the doctrine and narrated many beautiful and interesting stories to illustrate the principles. It is 'masterpiece' in vedanta. This scripture is a treasure fr those who practise 'Brahma Abhyasa' or Contemplation upon 'Brahman'.
It is said that He, who studies the book with genuine interest and focussed mind gets attainment of Self-realisation.

Rishi Valmiki, the author of the Ramayana, compiled this remarkable book. He related the whole of Yoga Vasishtha to Rishi Bharadwaja as it passed between Sri Rama and sage Vasishtha. There are two books, namely, the 'Brihat Yoga Vasishtham' and the 'Laghu Yoga Vasishtham'. The 'brihat' (means big)  contains 32,000 Granthas/slokas. The 'laghu'(small)  contains 6,000 Grantha/slokas.The Yoga Vasishtham contains a system of ancient philosophical thought and it is a valuable heritage from our matrubhumi 'Bharatavarsha' or 'Aryavarta'.

Those whose minds are turned from this world, who have become indifferent towards the objects of this world and are thirsting for liberation, will be really benefited by a study of this vedantic treasure . They will surely find in this book a vast mine of knowledge and practical spiritual instructions (hints on sadhana) for guidance in their daily life. This is a book for constant study as many times as possible. It must be read and re-read, studied and mastered.
Many saints and seekers hav read the book fr many times. It is a record that Pundit Brindawana Saraswati ji of Benaras had read the Yoga Vasishtha one hundred and sixty-five times. It is a comprehensive, systematic and literary philosophical work and the most read . Though the book is called Yoga-Vasishtha, it treats of Jnana (knowledge)  only. It is also  known by the name *Jnana Vasishtha*.
The Yoga Vasishtha deals with the subject of effecting union of the individual soul with the Supreme Soul amidst all the trials and tribulations of life.

Division and Doctrine of Yoga Vashistha :
***************************

The book consists of six Prakaranas or sections,

1. 'Vairagya' - dispassion or indifference.

2. 'Mumukshu Prakarana' -on longing for liberation.

3. 'Utpatti Prakarana' - on creation or origin.

4. 'Sthiti Prakarana' - on preservation or existence.

5.' Upasanti Prakarana' - on dissolution or quiescence.

6. 'Nirvana Prakarana' -on liberation.

*****************************
(1) According to Yoga Vasishtha, this world of experience with various objects, time, space and laws, is a creation of the mind, that is, an idea or Kalpana. Just as objects are created by the mind in dream, so also everything is created by the mind in the waking state also.

Expansion of the mind is Sankalpa. Sankalpa, through its power of differentiation, generates this universe. Time and space are only mental creations. Through the play of the mind in objects, nearness seems to be a great distance and vice versa. Through the force of the mind, a 'Kalpais' regarded as a moment and vice versa. A moment of waking experience may be experienced as years in dream. The mind can have the experience of miles within a short span and miles can also be experienced as a span only. Mind is not anything different and separate from Brahman. Brahman manifests Himself as mind. Mind is endowed with creative power. Mind is the cause of bondage and liberation. The doctrine of Drishti-Srishtivada is expounded in the Yoga Vasishtha.

In some places Vasishtha speaks of the Ajativada of Sri Gaudapadacharya, the great Guru of Sri Sankara. You begin to see and then there is creation. This is Drishti-Srishtivada. This world does not exist at all in the three periods of time. This is Ajativada or non-origin of the universe. This is a most inspiring book. Every student of Vedanta keeps this book for constant study. It is a constant companion for a student on the path of Jnana Yoga. It is not a Prakriya Grantha; it does not deal with the Prakriyas or categories of Vedanta. Only advanced students can take up this book for their study. Beginners should first study the Atma Bodha, Tattwa Bodha andAtmanatma Viveka of Sri Sankara, and the Pancheekaran before they take up the study of Yoga Vasishtha.

Moksha According to Yoga Vasishtha
*****************************
Moksha, according to Yoga Vasishtha, is the attainment of the essence of the bliss of Brahman through knowledge of the Self. It is freedom from births and deaths. It is the immaculate and imperishable seat of Brahman wherein there are neither Sankalpas norVasanas. The mind attains its quiescence here. All the pleasures of the whole world are a mere drop when compared to the infinite bliss of Moksha. That which is called Moksha is neither in Devaloka nor in Patala nor on earth. When all desires are destroyed, the extinction of the expansive mind alone is Moksha. Moksha has neither space nor time in itself; nor is there in it any state external or internal. If the illusory idea of "I" or Ahamkara perishes, the end of thoughts (which is Maya) is experienced, and that is Moksha. Extinction of all Vasanas constitutes Moksha. Sankalpa is only Samsara; its annihilation is Moksha. It is only Sankalpa destroyed beyond resurrection that constitutes the immaculate Brahmic seat or Moksha. Moksha is freedom from all sorts of pains (Sarva-Duhkha Nivritti) and the attainment of supreme bliss (Paramananda Prapti).

"Duhkha" means pain or suffering. Births and deaths generate the greatest pain. Freedom from births and deaths is freedom from all sorts of pain. Brahma Jnana or knowledge of the Self alone will give Moksha. The quiescence produced in the mind by the absence of desires for objects is Moksha.Moksha is not a thing to be achieved. It is already there. You are in reality not bound. You are ever pure and free. If you were really bound you could never become free. You have to know that you are the immortal, all-pervading Self. To know that, is to become That. This is Moksha. This is the goal of life. This is the summum bonum of existence. That state of non-attraction of the mind, when neither "I" nor any other self exists for it, and when it abandons the pleasures of the world, should be known as the path that leads to Moksha. The Absolute, according to the Yoga Vasishtha, is Satchidananda Para Brahman, who is non-dual, partless, infinite, self-luminous, changeless and eternal. He is the ultimate substance. He is the unity behind the subject and the object of experience. He is one homogeneous essence. He is all pervading. He is beyond description. He is nameless, colourless, odourless, tasteless, timeless, spaceless, deathless and birthless.

Qualifications of the Student
*****************************

He whose mind is calm, who is endowed with the "Four Means" of salvation, who is free from defects and impurities can realise the Self intuitively through meditation. The scriptures and the, spiritual preceptor cannot show us Brahman. They can only guide us and give us a hint by way of analogies and illustrations.Shanti (quiescence of mind), Santosha (contentment), Satsanga (association with sages) and Vichara (Atmic enquiry) are the four sentinels who guard the gates of Moksha. If you make friendship with them, you will easily enter the kingdom of Moksha. Even if you keep company with one of them, he will surely introduce you to his other three companions. The student should have an unshakable conviction that Brahman is the only Reality, that everything is Brahman, that Brahman is the very Self of all beings. Then he should realise this truth through direct cognition or intuition (Aparokshanubhava). This direct knowledge of Brahman alone is the means of liberation. There is no difference between the waking and dream experiences. The waking state is a long dream. The dream experiences become unreal as soon as man comes back to his waking state. Even so, the waking state becomes unreal for a sage who has attained Self-realisation. For the man who dreams, the waking state becomes unreal.

*****************************
Essence of Yoga Vasishtha
*****************************

(1)If you attain knowledge of the Self or Brahma Jnana, you will be freed from the trammels of births and deaths. All your doubts will vanish and all Karmas will perish. It is through one’s own efforts alone that the immortal, all blissful Brahmic seat can be obtained.

(2) The slayer of the Atman is only the mind. The form of the mind is only Sankalpas. The true nature of the mind consists in the Vasanas.

(3) The actions of the mind alone are truly termed actions (Karmas). The universe is nothing but the mind manifesting as such through the power of Brahman. The mind contemplating on the body becomes the body itself and then, enmeshed in it, is afflicted by it.The mind manifests itself as the external world in the shape of pains or pleasures.

(4)The mind subjectively is consciousness. Objectively, it is this universe. By its enemy, discrimination, the mind is rendered to the quiescent state of Para Brahman. The real bliss is that which arises when the mind, divested of all desires through the eternal Jnana, destroys its subtle form.
The Sankalpas and Vasanas which you generate, enmesh you as in a net. The self-light of Para Brahman alone is appearing as the mind or this universe.Persons without Atmic enquiry will see as real this world, which is nothing but of the nature of Sankalpas.

(5)The expansion of this mind alone is Sankalpa. Sankalpa, through its power of differentiation, generates this universe. Extinction of Sankalpas alone is Moksha. The enemy of the Atman is this impure mind only which is filled with excessive delusion and hosts of worldly thoughts. There is no vessel on this earth to wade through the ocean of rebirths other than mastery of the antagonistic mind. The original sprout of the painful Ahamkara, with its tender stem of rebirths, at length ramifies itself everywhere with its long branches of "mine" and "thine" and yields its unripe fruits of death, disease, old age and sorrows. This tree can be destroyed to its root only by the fire of Jnana.

(6)All the heterogeneous visibles, perceived through the organ of sense, are only unreal; that which is real is Para Brahman or the Supreme Soul.If all objects which have an enchanting appearance become eyesores and present the very reverse of the former feelings, then the mind is destroyed. All your properties are useless. All wealth lands you in dangers.

(7)Freedom from desires will take you to the eternal, blissful abode.Destroy Vasanas and Sankalpas. Kill egoism. Annihilate this mind. Equip yourself with the "Four Means". Meditate on the pure, immortal, all-pervading Self or Atman. Get knowledge of the Self and attain immortality, everlasting peace, eternal bliss, freedom and perfection.

(8)A Jivanmukta or a realised soul roams about happily. He has neither attractions nor attachments. He has nothing to attain nor has he anything to give up. He works for the well-being of the world. He is free from desires, egoism and greed. He is in solitude though he works in the busiest part of a city.

(9)May you all drink the nectar of Yoga Vasishtha! May you all taste the honey of wisdom of the Self! May you all become Jivanmuktas in this very birth!

(10) May the blessings of sage Vasishtha, sage Valmiki and other Brahma-Vidya Gurus be upon you all! May you all partake of the essence of the bliss of Brahman!

Chapter XIV
[ The Sandilya Doctrine ]

Few words on this doctrine :
-----------------------------
Here in this doctrine we see how "will' is important fr the attainment of God -'brahman'.
In Bhagavad Gita too we see the similar theory in 'aksharbrahmyog'. What we practice, what is our will, what we call fr at the time when we leave the world, we certainly reach that.
The gist of all spiritual practice is 'attainment of Brahma' . The concept of sanatana dharma is based on the Karmik theory. The impression upon mind we carry forward in next birth.
If, the highest desire - the highest attainment is there which is 'merge n be one with the light ' with 'brahman' .... there cease the process of birth n death cycle. And then we are free to choose whether we come here again or not.

English translation of these verses :
1. All this is Brahman. From It the universe comes forth, in It the universe merges and in It the universe breathes. Therefore a man should meditate on Brahman with a calm mind. Now, verily, a man consists of will. As he wills in this world, so does he become when he has departed hence. Let him with this knowledge in mind form his will.
2—3. He who consists of the mind, whose body is subtle, whose form is light, whose thoughts are true, whose nature is like the akasa, whose creation in this universe, who cherishes all righteous desires, who contains all pleasant odours, who is endowed with all tastes, who embraces all this, who never speaks and who is without longing— He is my Self within the heart, smaller than a grain of rice, smaller than a grain of barley, smaller than a mustard seed, smaller than a grain of millet; He is my Self within the heart, greater than the earth, greater than the mid—region, greater than heaven, greater than all these worlds.
4. He whose creation is this universe, who cherishes all desires, who contains all odours, who is endowed with all tastes, who embraces all this, who never speaks and who is without longing—He is my Self within the heart, He is that Brahman. When I shall have departed hence I shall certainly reach Him: one who has this faith and has no doubt will certainly attain to that Godhead. Thus said Sandilya, yes, thus He said.

Chapter XI : [ The Result of the Meditation on the Honey]
1. Now, after having risen thence upwards, it (i.e. the sun) rises and sets no more. It remains alone in the centre. And on this there is the following verse:
2. "There (i.e. in Brahmaloka) the sun neither rises nor sets at any time. O ye gods, if this is true, may I never fall from Brahman!"
3. Verily, for him who thus knows this Brahma—Upanishad, the sun does not rise or set. For him it is day for ever.
4. This doctrine Brahma told to Prajapati, Prajapati to Manu, Manu to his offspring. And to Uddalaka Aruni this doctrine of Brahman was narrated by his father.
5. A father may therefore tell that doctrine of Brahman to his eldest son to a worthy disciple.
6. It must not be told to anyone else, even if he should offer one the whole sea—girt earth, full of treasure; for this doctrine is worth more an that, yea, it is worth more.

Chapter XII [ Meditation on the Gayatri ]
1. The gayatri is everything, whatever here exists. Speech is verily the Gayatri, for speech sings forth (gaya—ti) and protects (traya—te) everything, whatever here exists.
2. That Gayatri is also the earth; for everything that exists here rests on this earth and does not go beyond.
3. In man, that Gayatri is also the body; for the pranas exist in this body and do not go beyond.
4. That body, in man, is again the heart within a man; for the pranas exist in it and do not go beyond.
5. That Gayatri has four feet and is sixfold. The same is also declared by a Rik—verse:
6. "Such is its greatness (i.e. of Brahman as known through the symbol of the Gayatri). Greater than it is the Person (Brahman). One of Its feet covers all beings; the immortal three feet are in heaven (i.e. in Itself)
7—9. The Brahman which has been thus described is the same as the physical akasa outside a person. The akasa which is outside a person is the same as that which is inside a person. The akasa which is inside a person is the akasa within the heart. The akasa which is within the heart is omnipresent and unchanging. He who knows this obtains full and unchanging prosperity.

Chapter XIII : [ Meditation on the Door-Keepers]
1. Of that heart there are five doors controlled by the devas. That which is the eastern door is the prana—that is the eye, that is Aditya (the sun). One should meditate on that as brightness and the source of food. He who knows this becomes bright and an eater of food.
2. That which is the southern gate is the vyana—that is the ear, that is Chandrama (the moon). One should meditate on that as prosperity and fame. He who knows this becomes prosperous and famous.
3. That which is the western gate is the apana—that is speech, that is Agni (fire). One should meditate on that as the radiance of Brahman and the source of food. He who knows this becomes radiant and an eater of food.
4. That which is the northern gate is the samana—that is the mind, that is Parjanya (the rain—god). One should meditate on that as fame and beauty. He who knows this becomes famous and beautiful.
5. That which is the upper gate is the udana—that is Vayu, that is the akasa. One should meditate on that as strength and greatness. He who knows this becomes strong and great.
6. These are the five servants of Brahman, the door—keepers of the world of heaven. He who thus knows these five servants of Brahman, the door—keepers of the world of heaven—in his family a hero is born. He who thus knows the five servants of Brahman, the door—keepers of the world of heaven, himself attains the world of heaven.
7—8. Now, the light which shines above this heaven, above all the worlds, above everything, in the highest worlds not excelled by any other worlds, that is the same light which is within man. There is this visible of this light: when we thus perceive by touch the warmth in the body. And of it we have this audible proof: when we thus hear, by covering the ears, what is like the rumbling of a carriage, or the bellowing of an ox, or the sound of a blazing fire. One should worship as Brahman that inner light which is seen and heard. He who knows becomes conspicuous and celebrated, yea, he becomes celebrated.

[ Here is the description of that luminous person whom we see in the sun and He whom we hold in the heart as Brahman.
Udgatri in His 'Saman' sings fr them both. The deity and the Supreme. He is a blesser indeed. He has got right to sing 'saman' at the time of performing Hotra and fulfill the desire of the ppl through the person in His eye. As He gets the worlds that are extended below this person, and also the desired objects of men.
Therefore the Udgatir priest who knows thus should ask the sacrificer ''What desire shall I obtain for you by singing the Saman?'' As he alone becomes capable of obtaining desires by singing , who knowing thus sings the 'Saman' ]

THE SONG CELESTIAL VERSES FROM BHAGAVAD GITA SELECTED AND RESET BY SRI RAMANA MAHARSHI :

Sanjaya said:

1. To him (Arjuna) thus filled with compassion and in despair, his eyes distressed and full of tears, spoke Madhusudana these words (ii. 1)

The Blessed Lord said

2. This body, O son of Kunti, is called the kshetra (field); him who knows it, the sages call, the kshetrajna (knower of the field). (xiii. 1 )

3.Know Me also as the knower of the field in all the fields, O Bharata: knowledge of the field and of the knower of the field I deem to be true knowledge.(xiii. 2 )

4. I am the Self, O Gudakesa, dwelling in the Heart of every being; I am the beginning and the middle, and likewise the end of all beings.(x. 20)

5. Of the born the death is certain, and certain the birth of the dead: therefore for what none can prevent thou shouldst not grieve.(ii. 27)

6. Never is He born nor dead; nor having been, ceaseth He any more to be: unborn, abiding, eternal, ancient, He is not slain when the body is slain.(ii. 20)

7. Not to be cleft is He, not to be burnt is He, not even to be wetted nor yet to be dried is He: abiding He is and all-pervading, stable, immovable and everlasting.( ii. 24)

8. Know That to be indestructible whereby all this is pervaded; of this Immutable none can work destruction.(ii 17)

9. Of the non-existent there is no being, and of what exists there is no non-being; the definite ascertainment of both is seen by the seers of the essence of Truth.(ii. 16)

10. As ether everywhere present is not polluted by virtue of its subtlety, even so the Self abiding everywhere is not polluted in the body.(xiii. 32)

11. Nor sun nor moon nor fire illumines It: and whither having gone men return not, That is My Abode Supreme.(xv. 6)

12. Unmanifested, Imperishable is this called; and this they proclaim the Supreme State, which attained they return not, That is My Abode Supreme.(viii. 21)

13. Without pride, without delusion, victorious over the blemish of attachment, ever abiding in the Self, their desires abandoned, released from the pairs called pleasure and pain, they go undeluded to that Abode Immutable.(xv. 5)

14. He who forsakes the ordinances of scriptures, and acts under the influence of desire, attains not perfection, nor happiness, nor the Supreme State.(xvi. 23)

15. Who sees the Lord Supreme dwelling alike in all beings, perishing not as they perish, he sees indeed.(xiii. 27)

16. By devotion alone, without the ‘otherness’, O Arjuna, thus can I be known, and seen, and in essence entered, O Parantapa.(xi. 54)

17. The faith of every man, O Bharata, accords with his essential character; man is instinct with faith: as that wherein a man hath faith, verily so is he.(xvii. 3)

18. He that has intense faith, and to that faith being devoted has the senses controlled, gains knowledge; and having gained knowledge he swiftly attains Supreme Peace.(iv. 39)

19. To those who are self-attuned and who worship Me with affectionate devotion I give that union with understanding whereby they come unto Me.(x. 10)

20. Out of compassion for them and abiding in their Self I destroy with the resplendent light of knowledge their darkness born of ignorance.(x. 11)

21. Verily for those in whom the ignorance is destroyed by the knowledge of the Self, in them the knowledge like the sun illumines That Supreme.(v. 16)

22. High, they say, are the senses; higher than the senses is the mind; and higher than the mind is the understanding; but one who is higher than understanding is He.(iii 42)

23. Thus knowing Him to be higher than the understanding, steadying the self by the Self, O thou strong of arm, slay the enemy in the form of desire, so hard to overcome.(iii. 43)

24. Just as a burning fire makes ashes of its fuel, O Arjuna, even so does the fire of knowledge make ashes of all works.(iv. 37)

25. Whose every enterprise is without desire or motive, whose actions are burnt up in the fire of knowledge, him the wise call a Sage.(iv 19)

26. All around the austere sages free from desire and wrath, who have subdued their mind and have realized the Self, radiate the beatific peace of Brahman.(v. 26)

27. Little by little should one realize tranquillity, by judgement held with a steadfast purpose; making the mind abide in the Self, he should think of nothing at all.(vi. 25)

28. Towards whatsoever the mind wanders, being fickle and unsteady, therefrom it should be withdrawn and brought under the sway of the Self alone.(vi. 26)

29. With the senses, mind and intellect subdued, the saint who devoutly seeks Liberation, without desire, fear or wrath – he is indeed ever Liberated.(v. 28)

30. The one steadfast in yoga and looking on every thing impartially, sees the Self abiding in all beings, and all beings in the Self.(vi. 29)

31. I undertake to secure and protect the welfare of those who without ‘otherness’ meditate on Me and worship Me, and who ever abide thus attuned.(ix. 22 )

32. Of these the jnani, who is ever attuned, whose devotion is centred in One, is the most excellent; because to the jnani am I exceedingly dear and he is dear to Me.(vii. 17)

33. At the end of many births the jnani finds refuge in Me, recognising that Vasudeva is all. Such a high Soul is very hard to find.(vii. 19 )

34. When one puts away, O Partha, all the desires that are in the mind, and in the Self alone by the Self well satisfied, then is he called the man of steadfast wisdom.(ii. 55 )

35. Having cast away all desires, that man who goes without longing, devoid of ‘I’ and ‘mine’ – he doth attain peace. (ii, 71)

36. He by whom the world is not disturbed, and who is not disturbed by the world, free from exultation, impatience, fright and agitation – he is dear to me.(xii. 15)

37. He who holds honour and dishonour equal, equal the friendly party and the foe, who has renounced all enterprise – he is said to have transcended the gunas.(xiv. 25)

38. The man who revels here and now in the Self alone, with the Self is satisfied, and in the Self alone is content – for him there is no work which he must do. (iii. 17)

39. For him there is no purpose in doing the work, nor any in leaving it here undone; nor is there for him in all the beings anything which serves a purpose. (iii. 18)

40. Content to take what chance may bring, having transcended the pairs, free from ill-will, and even-minded in success or failure, though he works, he is not bound.(iv. 22)

41. The Lord, O Arjuna, dwells in the Heart of every being and by His mysterious power spins round all beings set on the machine.(xviii. 61)

42. Unto Him alone surrender, O Bharata, with all thy being; by His Grace shalt thou obtain Peace Supreme, the Abode Eternal.(xviii. 62 )
