(29) *Kobitay Chandogya Upanishad* (Part 4 , Ch 6 and7)

॥ चतुर्थोऽध्यायः ॥

॥ षष्ठः खण्डः ॥

अग्निष्टे पादं वक्तेति स ह श्वोभूते गा आभिप्रस्थापयाञ्चकार ता यत्राभिसायं बभूवुस्तत्राग्निमुपसमाधाय गा उपरुध्य समिधमाधाय पश्चादग्नेः प्राङुपोपविवेश ॥ १ ॥
तमग्निरभ्युवाद सत्यकाम३ इति भगव इति ह प्रतिशुश्राव ॥ २ ॥
ब्रह्मणः सोम्य ते पादं ब्रवाणीति ब्रवीतु मे भगवानिति तस्मै होवाच पृथिवी कलान्तरिक्षं कला द्यौः कला समुद्रः कलैष वै सोम्य चतुष्कलः पादो ब्रह्मणोऽनन्तवान्नाम ॥ ३ ॥
स य एतमेवं विद्वाँश्चतुष्कलं पादं ब्रह्मणोऽनन्तवानित्युपास्तेऽनन्तवानस्मिँल्लोके भवत्यनन्तवतो ह लोकाञ्जयति य एतमेवं विद्वाँश्चतुष्कलं पादं ब्रह्मणोऽनन्तवानित्युपास्ते ॥ ४ ॥

हँसस्ते पादं वक्तेति स ह श्वोभूते गा अभिप्रस्थापयाञ्चकार ता यत्राभिसायं बभूवुस्तत्राग्निमुपसमाधाय गा उपरुध्य समिधमाधाय पश्चादग्नेः प्राङुपोपविवेश ॥ १ ॥
तँहँस उपनिपत्याभ्युवाद सत्यकाम३ इति भगव इति ह प्रतिशुश्राव ॥ २ ॥
ब्रह्मणः सोम्य ते पादं ब्रवाणीति ब्रवीतु मे भगवानिति तस्मै होवाचाग्निः कला सूर्यः कला चन्द्रः कला विद्युत्कलैष वै सोम्य चतुष्कलः पादो ब्रह्मणो ज्योतिष्मान्नाम ॥ ३ ॥
स य एतमेवं विद्वाँश्चतुष्कलं पादं ब्रह्मणो ज्योतिष्मानित्युपास्ते ज्योतिष्मानस्मिँल्लोके भवति ज्योतिष्मतो ह लोकाञ्जयति य एतमेवं विद्वाँश्चतुष्कलं पादं ब्रह्मणो ज्योतिष्मानित्युपास्ते ॥ ४ ॥

||  ষষ্ঠ খন্ড ||

বৃষ আরও কহে - 'অগ্নি' এইপরে ,
আরেক পদ ব্রাহ্মণের জানাইবেন তোমারে !!

এ শুনিয়া পরদিন সহস্রগাভী সাথে ,
সত্যকাম চলিল গুরুগৃহ অভিমুখী পথে .....

দিবাশেষে গাভিগনে খুঁটিতে বাঁধিয়া,
অগ্নিপশ্চাতে  আসনপরি -ইন্ধন অগ্নিকুন্ডে দিয়া ,

বসেন সত্যকাম পূর্বদিক মুখ করি ,
অগ্নিদেব ডাকেন তারে 'সত্যকাম' বলি !!

' আজ্ঞা প্রভু ' জবাব দিলেন তাঁরে সত্যকাম !!
" ব্রাহ্মণের অপর পদ তোমারে জানাইব এখন "

" ধরিত্রী আকাশ স্বর্গ সমুদ্র এই চারিভাগ পরে ,
ব্রাহ্মণের আরেক পদ ব্যাপিত সর্বতরে !!

এ চতুর্ভাগ-এ পদ জানিয়া ইহাতে  ধরি ধ্যান ,
'অনন্ত ' বিজয়ী হন সেই সেই মহান !!

'অনন্তবাত' কহি এ-পদে চার যার অংশ ,,

পরের পদ তোমারে জানাইবেন এক হংস !!

এ শুনিয়া পরদিন সহস্রগাভী সাথে ,
সত্যকাম চলিল গুরুগৃহ অভিমুখী পথে .....

দিবাশেষে গাভিগনে খুঁটিতে বাঁধিয়া,
অগ্নিপশ্চাতে  আসনপরি -ইন্ধন অগ্নিকুন্ডে দিয়া ,

বসেন সত্যকাম পূর্বদিক মুখ করি ,
এক হংস উডিযা আসি ডাকে 'সত্যকাম' করি !!

'আদেশ প্রভু ' কহেন সত্যকাম সেই হংসে ,,
"ব্রহ্মের অপর পদ ব্যাপিত এই চারি অংশে !!

অগ্নি -সূর্য -চন্দ্র - বজ্র এই চারিভাগ হয় ,
এ পদে ধ্যান ধরিলে কেহ হন  ' জ্যোতির্ময়' ....

ব্রাহ্মণের এই পদে  'জ্যোতিস্মাত' কহি সবে ,,
এ পদে ধরিলে ধ্যান তুমিও  জ্যোতি-স্বরূপ হবে !!

( Instruction by Fire)

The bull further said: "Agni (fire) will declare to you another foot of Brahman.
Satyakama then, when it was the morrow, drove the cows in the direction of the teacher’s house. And when they came together toward evening, he lighted a fire, penned the cows, laid fuel on the fire and sat down behind the fire, facing the east.
Agni (fire), addressing him, said: "Satyakama!"
"Revered Sir!"  Satyakama replied.

"Dear friend, I will declare to you one foot of Brahman.""Declare it, revered Sir."
Agni said to him: "The earth is one quarter, the sky is one quarter, heaven is one quarter, the ocean is one quarter. This, dear friend, is one foot of Brahman, consisting of four quarters and this foot is called Anantavat (endless).

He who knows this and meditates on the foot of Brahman consisting of four quarters as endless, becomes endless on this earth. He conquers endless worlds-he who knows this and meditates on the foot of Brahman consisting of four quarters as endless."

(Instruction by the Swan )

Agni further said: "A hamsa (swan) will declare to you another foot."
Satyakama then, when it was the morrow, drove the cows in the direction of the teacher’s house. And when they came together toward evening, he lighted a fire, penned the cows, laid fuel on the fire and sat down behind the fire, facing the east.

Then a swan flew to him and said: "Satyakama!"
"Revered Sir!" Satyakama replied.

"Dear friend, I will declare to you one foot of Brahman" ."Declare it, revered Sir."
The swan said to him: "Fire is one quarter, the sun is one quarter, the moon is one quarter, lightning is one quarter. This, dear friend, is one foot of Brahman, consisting of four quarters and this foot is called Jyotishmat (luminous).

He who knows this and meditates on the foot of Brahman consisting of four quarters as luminous, becomes luminous on this earth. He conquers luminous worlds-he who knows this and meditates on the foot of Brahman consisting of four quarters as luminous."
